The boom is a built-up carbon fiber box beam, approximately 6"x3". It is constructed of bi-directional 5.7oz carbon fiber oriented +/-45, with lengths of Graphilite pultruded unidirectional carbon fiber in the corners of the boom for bending strength (between inner and outer torsion plies). Foam and carbon-foam bulkheads provide internal support. Hardpoints are created with phenolic pads which are then re-covered with tapered plies of bi-directional carbon. Attachments are made with anodized aluminum brackets bolted to the hardpoints with AN3C hardware.
A sliding bearing was installed midway down the tail to provide support for the elevator pushrod.
The boom was finished with white EP-420 epoxy primer applied with a regular spray gun.
