Control Systems
- The primer and choke are controlled via a panel in the ceiling of the pod. The throttle and Push-To-Talk switch are located on the floor just inside the door opening.
- The elevator position is controlled by a two-piece push-pull rod. Each section is a 1.25 inch diameter 6061-T6 aluminum tube with machined fittings at each end. A 5/8" rod connects the two through the midpoint bearing of the boom.
- The mainwheel brake is a simple lever action system with a friction shoe that presses against the tire tread. It is activated by a T-handle on the front seat support, connected to the lever by a 1/16" stainless aircraft cable.
- The elevator trim tab is a ground-adjustable tab made of carbon-balsa-carbon sandwich construction with an aluminum strip hardpoint for hinge attachment (galvanically isolated between layers of fiberglass). It is held to the trailing edge of the elevator by an MS20001 extruded hinge.(1/20/10)
- The rudder trim tab is almost identical to the elevator, but smaller in size. It is a solid-carbon plank with a built-up carbon and phenolic bellcrank.(1/20/10)
- Elevator travel is constrained by a bump stop installed in the tail. Travel is 30deg up, 20deg down. (1/25/10)
The rudder is controlled by a two-cable system. Each cable runs from a pedal, around a lower pulley at the rear of the pod floor, around an upper pulley at the top-back corner of the pod, through two guides and a spreader bar, to the rudder bellcrank on the lower rudder. A tube then connects the upper and lower rudder through the fuselage boom.
