We restored the 1-26 over the summer of 2003, taking it from frames and parts in the hangar to first flight. Glazing putty to smooth out the bumps on the fiberglass nose. Alodine conversion-coating the wings. Instruments installed in refinished panel. Raw fabric draped on the fuselage frame, which has already been painted with epoxy primer. Vertical stabilizer. Horizontal stabilizer. Wings painted. Fuselage painted. At some point near the end of the restoration process, the paint job kept coming up as a point of discussion. The original red was out, white with high-vis orange stripes was kicked around, until we realized the only acceptable paint scheme would the the Edwards AFB test flight chase plane scheme - white with orange tips, fin, and chin, with a black nose. The paint was easy to do, and it got some attention.
